Privacy Policy
Zero doesn't collect any data. Everything you enter stays on your devices and, if you sync, in your own iCloud.
Effective September 30, 2026
What Zero stores
Your accounts, transactions, budgets, goals, notes and settings are saved in Zero's own storage on your device, inside the app's sandbox. The optional name you enter is used only to greet you. None of it is sent to me.
iCloud sync
So your iPhone and Mac show the same things, Zero keeps a copy of your data in your private iCloud database, using Apple's CloudKit. It's on by default and you can turn it off in Zero's Settings; it takes effect the next time you open Zero. The copy is in your iCloud account, which I can't access. Apple encrypts it; with Advanced Data Protection turned on for your Apple Account, it's end-to-end encrypted. Your name, currency and exchange rates sync through iCloud the same way.
What Zero doesn't do
- No account, sign-up or login.
- No analytics, advertising, tracking or third-party SDKs.
- No servers of mine hold your data: Zero doesn't send your financial data anywhere except your own iCloud (if sync is on) and the monthly recap described below.
Features that use your device
- Understanding entries: when Apple Intelligence is available, entries, questions and receipts are read by Apple's on-device model. They never leave your device.
- Monthly recap (optional, iOS 27 and macOS 27): if you turn on Private Cloud Compute in Zero’s Settings, the recap on the iPhone's Home or the Mac's Overview is written by Apple's Private Cloud Compute. Only that month's totals, top categories and biggest expense are sent, never your entries or accounts. Apple's Private Cloud Compute doesn't store the request, and neither Apple nor I can read it. You can turn it off in Settings.
- Exchange rates and prices (optional): to keep rates and investment prices current, Zero asks my servers and a public exchange-rate service for rates, sending only currency codes and ticker symbols, never your entries or balances. You can turn this off in Settings and type rates yourself.
- Widgets and Spotlight: a summary is shared with Zero's widgets, and entries are indexed in Spotlight, both locally on your device.
- Reminders: bill and budget reminders are local notifications you can turn off in Settings.
- Receipts: receipt photos you choose are read on your device with Apple's Vision framework.
- Touch ID and Face ID: handled by the system. Zero never sees your fingerprint, face or passcode.
Backups and exports
Backups, CSV and PDF exports are files you choose to save. What happens to them afterwards is up to you. If your device backs up with Time Machine or iCloud, Zero's data is included the same way as your other files.
Deleting your data
Erase Everything, in Zero’s Settings, removes everything in Zero; with sync on, that includes the copy in your iCloud and on your other devices. Deleting the app removes its data from that device only. You can also remove Zero's iCloud data in your device's iCloud settings.
Children
Zero isn't directed at children and collects no data from anyone.
